Reaction to the Sun: The colour of Stonestimber will fade slightly after ten to twelve weeks exposed on the sunlight and water due to the natural weathering process of wood and cellulose content. This is normal and the quality of product will not be affected.

Reaction in the water: Stonestimber absorb little water. After a test in which it was submerged in boiling water for 24 hours, no appreciable effect in the strength was measured.

Reaction to fire: Stonestimber has much higher ignition than wood. Its Self Ignition Temperature is 4500 C / 8400 F, thus is less likely to catch fire.

Reaction to rot, splinter or decay: Because Stonestimber absorb very little water, water cannot have any deteriorating impact on the products.

Reaction to inset damage: Stonestimber is highly resistant to damage from insets, including carpenter ants and marine borers.

Reaction in very cold weather: Stonestimber performs well in very cold weather. Because it is 50% plastic, it will be harder in cold weather. That is why we recommend pre-drilled before nailing.

Reaction in very hot weather: When the temperature is increasing, Stonestimber will get more flexible and it will expand/contract slightly. That is why we must follow the joist span and board gapping instructions at installation.

Used in full ground contact: This material is ideal for ground contact applications like landscape timber and edging, no treatment is required.

Product maintenance: Stonestimber product is maintenance free. No paint or stain is required. This is why using this product will save your money in the long term. Comparing the cost between wood and Stonestimber, the cost of wood decking will overtake Stonestimber due to the maintenance cost involved.

Cleaning: Because Stonestimber absorb little water, dirt and debris will not easily attached it. Soap, hot water and stiff bristle are all you need to remove dirt and debris. For mold, use conventional deck washes and cleaners that contain sodium hypochlorite(bleach) and detergent.

Compounding: Compounding is the first stage of manufacturing process. In this process the filler and additives are dispersed in the molten polymer to produce a homogeneous blend.

Extrusion: This process is required to first melt the polymer, then mix the molten polymer with the wood fibre such that a homogeneous melt is achieved. Any remaining moisture can be removed by vacuum venting. The extruder then compresses the blend to pass through the dice.

Pultrusion: This process produces a profile by pulling material through a stationary die.
