GENERAL INFORMATION

What is Stonestimber?

Stonestimber is new material made from recycle and reclaimed wood and plastic. It combines the best features of wood and plastic therefore it is an ideal choice for outdoor use.

The Benefits of Stonestimber

- Low moisture absorption and high resistance to decay and UV damage
- Strong durability
- Great dimensional stability and lower coefficient of expansion
- No rotting, cracking, warping or splintering
- Never have to paint or seal
- No ongoing maintenance cost, therefore long term saving
- Looks and feels like natural wood
- Can be cut, fastened, drilled and sanded like real wood
- No harmful chemicals
- 100% recyclable after use

The Benefits of Stonestimber to Our Environment

- Using one ton of Stonestimber is saving one and half of eucalyptuses in 30 years old for our forest
- Using one ton of Stonestimber is reducing 60 thousands of wasted plastic bags on
- the Earth

What colours dose Stonestimber come in?

There are six colours available. Please refer to special product profile for its available colours.

What finishes of Stonestimber deck boards are available?

Finishes of Stonestimber deck boards currently are available in grooved, tiny grooved with additional texture, or wood grain with additional texture.

What is the different between Stonestimber decking and plastic decking?

Stonestimber is approximately 50% wood and 50% plastic. Because of the wood content, Stonestimber has the advantages of low thermal expansion/contraction, good slip resistance and highly resistant to UV damage.

Will the colour of Stonestimber change?

Stonestimber will change (fade) colour slightly after 12 weeks exposed to the sunlight and water due to the natural weathering process of wood and cellulose content.

How long is the warranty?

Stonestimber has limited warranty against rot, splinter, splitting, decay and termite for a full 25 years.

INSTALLATIONS

What special tools are required to install Stonestimber decking?

No special tools are required when working with Stonestimber. It is just as easy to work with as wood. But for the best result, saw blade with fewer teeth (like 18 – 24 on a 45cm blade) will work easily, stay cooler and last longer.

What kinds of fasteners are recommended for Stonestimber Decking?

Any screws and nails are worked well with Stonestimber decking. We recommend high quality screws and nails such as stainless steel or ceramic coated so as to match Stonestimber decking's longevity.

Can I use Stonestimber for load bearing applications such as joists and/or structural work?

Please consult your structure engineer if you use this material for structure applications and to take full consideration on the bearing load of the decks.

Why there is no screw/nail heads appeared on the surface of Stonestimber decking M board profile?

No screw or nail heads appeared on surface make your deck looks more attractive. This is done using a Hidden Clip System by which all clips and screws/nails are fixed on the wood joists and hidden below the boards.

Dose Stonestimber require gapping between boards?

Yes. Changes in temperature will cause slight expansion/contraction of Stonewood decking. Therefore, gapping is required both side-to-side and end-to-end of the boards.

Can I bend Stonestimber deck boards?

Yes. Stonestimber can be bended according to your design requirement. This let you create an artistically designed deck. But it must be heated above 70°C (130°F) internally while gently bending. It is best to left to professional installers to do the job, because it will cause broken if you either do not heat it enough or bend it too fast.

MAINTENANCE

How long Stonestimber can be used?

Total life for these kinds of material is undetermined currently. But based on accelerated age testing, some experts estimated that this kind of material could last over 50 years, even in harsh weather conditions.

Do I need to paint or stain my Stonestimber decking?

No. Stonestimber is highly resistant to rotting, splintering and decay damage. It doesn't require any traditional timber treatment for protection. It is maintenance free.

Is Stonestimber decking really saving money in the long term?

Yes. It is maintenance free. Even the initial cost of Stonestimber decking is higher than wood. The cost of wood will take over Stonestimber within two years due to the maintenance requirements (painting/stain, clean, repair, etc) of wood decking. In four years, the cost of wood decking will be twice as Stonestimber.

Will my Stonestimber decking suffer from inset damage?

Stonestimber is highly resistant to damage from insets. And it doesn't need any treatments to achieve this.

Will my Stonestimber surfer from rotting, splintering and decay damage like traditional wood?

No. Due to the extremely low moisture absorption, water cannot pose any deteriorating threat to Stonestimber decking.

Stonestimber deck boards are normally grooved, are they easy to clean?

Yes. Stonestimber absorb very little water. Therefore, dirt and debris will not easily attached to it. Soap, hot water and bristle are all you need to remove dirt and debris. For mold, use conventional deck washes and cleaners that contain sodium hypochlorite and detergent.

PROPERTIES INFORMATIONS

What size and length dose Stonewood decking come in?

We currently have profiles of 35mm X 143mm, 30mm X 140mm, 15mm X 140mm, 15mm X 100mm 16mm X 82mm, 50mm X 100mm and 13mm X 55mm.Standard length are 3.6m in the UK market. We can supply up to 6 mitre lengths to our contractors who order a whole container.

Is Stonestimber deck slippery like plastic timber?

No. Stonestimber provides good slip-resistant surface – wet or dry.

What happen to Stonestimber in hot weather?

When the temperature increase, Stonestimber decking will expand/contract slightly. Our span chart and gapping instruction are designed to ensure that our decking perform well in extremely hot weather.

What happen to Stonestimber in cold weather?

Stonestimber perform well in cold weather. But because it is 50% plastic, it will be harder in extremely cold weather. This is why we recommend pre-drill before nailing under these conditions.

What is the reaction of Stonestimber to fire?

Stonestimber has much higher ignition than wood. Its Self-ignition Temperature is 450°C / 840°F, thus it is less likely to catch fire.

What is reaction of Stonestimber to water?

Stonestimber absorb very little water. After a test in which it was submerged in boiling water for 24 hours, no appreciable effects in the strength was measured.
